The Myers-Briggs personality test is one of the most prolific and widely used personality tests out there, and it categorizes people into 16 different personality types based on the differences in the ways we use our perception and judgment. (Cover image credits)
You probably know what your Myers-Briggs personality type says about your working style and how well you can work in a team, but what does it say about what kind of homeowner you’ll be? Read on to find out!
#1: The ISTJ
According to your MBTI, you are: “Quiet, serious, earn success by thoroughness and dependability. Decide logically what should be done and work toward it steadily, regardless of distractions.”
You’re the type of homeowner who will: have started saving up for your flat even before you were in a committed relationship. (You probably track all your daily expenses with an app on your phone, too).
#2: The ISFJ
According to your MBTI, you are: “Quiet, friendly, responsible, and conscientious. Strive to create an orderly and harmonious environment at work and at home.”
You’re the type of homeowner who will: decorate your home based on the adage that less is more. No retro posters, no eclectic mismatched chairs, and no neon signage for you. We recommend Marie Kondo’s best-selling book – The Life‑Changing Magic of Tidying Up.
#3: The INFJ
According to your MBTI, you: “Seek meaning and connection in ideas, relationships, and material possessions. Want to understand what motivates people and are insightful about others.”
You’re the type of homeowner who will: furnish your home with repurposed items, and avoid IKEA like the plague. That chair in the corner? It used to belong to your grandfather, who gifted it to you. That rug over there? You discovered it at a second-hand shop, and it’s a vintage piece that was made in Italy in the 60s.
#4: The INTJ
According to your MBTI, you are: “Skeptical and independent, have high standards of competence and performance – for themselves and others.”
You’re the type of homeowner who will: not engage professional painters, because you’re pretty sure that they’ll cut corners and do shoddy work. You can get the job done yourself.
#5: The ISTP
According to your MBTI, you: “Analyze what makes things work and readily get through large amounts of data to isolate the core of practical problems.”
You’re the type of homeowner who will: pore through all the data on transacted prices for flats within the past 2 years (available on HDB’s website!) so that you can make the best, most cost-effective decision on which neighbourhood to stay in.
#6: The ISFP
According to your MBTI, you: “Enjoy the present moment, what’s going on around them. Like to have their own space and to work within their own time frame.”
You’re the type of homeowner who will: need a cozy nook in your home (this can come in the form of a bean bag corner in your spare room, or a hammock in your balcony) so that you can retreat to your safe space when you’ve done too much socializing for one day.
#7: The INFP
According to your MBTI, you are: “Curious, quick to see possibilities, can be catalysts for implementing ideas.”
You’re the type of homeowner who will: fall in love with an old fixer-upper flat. Yes, it looks kinda dingy right now, but you can already visualize how gorgeous the space will look once you knock down a few walls, give it a fresh coat of paint, and let more light in.
#8: The INTP
According to your MBTI, you are: “Quiet, contained, flexible, and adaptable. Skeptical, sometimes critical, always analytical.”
You’re the type of homeowner who: is a property agent’s worst nightmare. No matter how great the apartment you’re viewing is, you can’t stop yourself from asking, yes, but what’s the catch?
#9: The ESTP
According to your MBTI, you: “Focus on the here-and-now, spontaneous, enjoy each moment that they can be active with others.”
You’re the type of homeowner who will: devote most of your space to the activities that you love. Maybe you have a bicycle rack and a yoga corner in your living room, and you’ve converted your spare room into a painting studio.
#10: The ESFP
According to your MBTI, you are: “Outgoing, friendly, and accepting. Exuberant lovers of life, people, and material comforts.”
You’re the type of homeowner who will: be hosting dinners and parties at your place, regardless of whether there’s an occasion to celebrate. Everyone is welcome!
#11: The ENFP
According to your MBTI, you are: “Warmly enthusiastic and imaginative. See life as full of possibilities.”
You’re the type of homeowner who will: take ages to decide on a colour scheme for your home. (All the swatches you got at the paint shop all look equally great when you hold them up against your walls!)
#12: The ENTP
According to your MBTI, you are: “Bored by routine, will seldom do the same thing the same way, apt to turn to one new interest after another.”
You’re the type of homeowner who will: renovate your home (or at least change up the placement of your furniture) every year. Hey, you know what they say – the only constant is change!
#13: The ESTJ
According to your MBTI, you: “Organize projects and people to get things done, focus on getting results in the most efficient way possible.”
You’re the type of homeowner who will: use a project management tool to coordinate housework and other home-related activities between you and your partner. (If you aren’t already acquainted with Trello, it’s going to be your new best friend!)
#14: The ESFJ
According to your MBTI, you are: “Warmhearted, conscientious, and cooperative. Want harmony in their environment, work with determination to establish it.”
You’re the type of homeowner who will: renovate and furnish your home according to fengshui guidelines. (You might not be sure if it’s 100% accurate, but it never hurts to believe!)
#15: The ENFJ
According to your MBTI, you are: “Highly attuned to the emotions, needs, and motivations of others. Find potential in everyone, want to help others fulfill their potential.”
You’re the type of homeowner who will: constantly pop in whilst your contractors are renovating your place – not to nitpick about the details, but just to offer them some cold drinks and to tell them to keep up the good work!
#16: The ENTJ
According to your MBTI, you are: “Usually well informed, well read, enjoy expanding their knowledge and passing it on to others.”
You’re the type of homeowner who will: have a dedicated study which is filled with wall to wall bookshelves. If there’s no walk-in wardrobe, that’s fine, but you can’t compromise on your study!
