Practice your skateboarding skills at the Ang Mo Kio Banks

If the Somerset skatepark is a little too flashy for your liking, head on down to the MRT tracks between Ang Mo Kio and Bishan, also known as Ang Mo Kio Banks. With plenty of steep slopes to practice on, and shelter to keep them cool, this is where the seasoned pros come to do their thing.

Ang Mo Kio Town Garden East Park is yet another fine example of why Singapore is known for being a garden city. There are plenty of cinnamon, nutmeg and cacao trees dotting its compounds, and its tranquility and serenity makes it a popular location for an evening stroll amongst residents.

You’d be surprised – this humble cafe and ice cream shop, Twenty Grammes, produces incredibly fluffy, crispy waffles that might even rival those of Wimbly Lu. If you’re a fickle eater, get the Yuan Yang Waffles which features a combination of belgian and charcoal waffles topped with homemade milk soft serve.

Double Scoops is your best bet if you’re looking for desserts with a twist. Other than their gelato remixed into funky flavours like Orh Nee and Gula Melaka, they’ve also recently introduced a pretty amazing Cloudfoggato dessert. Comprising of cotton candy, vanilla ice cream, an espresso shot, and chunks of deliciously chocolatey brownies, you can bet that you’re consuming a zillion calories at one go – but boy, is it worth it.

The queue snaking around Soi 19 Thai Wanton Mee might look long and intimidating – but don’t let it deter you. The Wanton Mee here is pretty much perfection; expect springy noodles, flavourful char siew, and crunchy wanton deep fried to a beautiful golden-brown. Don’t forget to help yourself to a generous dose of pork lard and chilli powder to experience your noodles exactly how the Thais do!
