To avoid this, we\u2019ve compiled a list of must-have nursery pieces for expecting parents, as well as those who already have one (or a few). It&#8217;s never too late to upgrade your baby equipment!<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>1. A special crib for your special newborn<\/b><\/span><\/h3>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\">Asian parents usually like to keep an eye on their babies. And if there\u2019s enough space, they put their baby to sleep in the middle of their bed. This isn\u2019t so comfortable for the parents, though. They<\/span><span class=\"s1\">\u00a0have to be very mindful of their movements and sounds (no snoring so loudly!) to ensure their baby sleeps well. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\">Hence, cribs and cots were created. This kills two birds with one stone as a baby in his or her own bed gives both parents and babies a good night\u2019s rest.<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_23500\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-23500\" style=\"width: 650px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-23500 \" src=\"https:\/\/www.99.co\/singapore\/insider\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/iStock-918681850.jpg\" alt=\"Cute asian baby girl in cot bed\" width=\"650\" height=\"487\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.99.co\/singapore\/insider\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/iStock-918681850.jpg 2000w, https:\/\/www.99.co\/singapore\/insider\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/iStock-918681850-380x284.jpg 380w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 650px) 100vw, 650px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-23500\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Getting a crib for your baby will give you a good night&#8217;s rest.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\">Some tricks to choosing the right baby are:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul class=\"ul1\">\n<li class=\"li3\"><span class=\"s1\"> Choose a flat and soft bed<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li3\"><span class=\"s1\"> Choose the one that\u2019s not between the bed and the mattress so that the baby&#8217;s hands and feet are not pinched<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\">Having a crib in advance is beneficial in the long run as it can be used again and again for future babies.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"p5\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>2. Mosquito Nets <\/b><\/span><\/h3>\n<p class=\"p5\"><span class=\"s1\">After getting a crib, now it\u2019s time for a layer of protection &#8211; mosquito nets. Mosquitos love Singapore, and parents must do everything they can to protect their precious babies from it.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Newborns have really sensitive skin, which makes them vulnerable to mosquito bites. And a net over a baby&#8217;s crib can prevent skin irritations and bumps.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_23496\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-23496\" style=\"width: 650px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-23496 \" src=\"https:\/\/www.99.co\/singapore\/insider\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/iStock-855138844.jpg\" alt=\"Singaporean family playing on the bed\" width=\"650\" height=\"431\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-23496\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Starting a family is exciting, but it takes good planning to make it work for you and your kids.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Make sure to choose a mosquito net with a strong frame so it won&#8217;t collapse on the baby when he or she&#8217;s sleeping. Double check that there aren&#8217;t any holes for pesky mosquitoes to enter through.<\/p>\n<h3>3. Sterile equipment<\/h3>\n<p>Babies are not just vulnerable to mosquitoes, but to germs as well. This is why everything must be sterile, especially when we come into direct (or skin) contact with them.<\/p>\n<p>Some things to prepare are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Gauze<\/li>\n<li>Sterile cotton<\/li>\n<li>Tissue<\/li>\n<li>Wet wipes<\/li>\n<li>Alcohol 70%<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Gauze and sterile cotton treat wounds on the baby&#8217;s navel. Alcohol 70% also functions the same. It cleans the umbilical cord wound when changing bandages. Normal tissue and wet tissue are for changing diapers and such.<\/p>\n<h3>4. Brushes to keep your baby&#8217;s bottles clean<\/h3>\n<p>Infants consume the most milk in the whole world. And where is milk usually stored? In a bottle.<\/p>\n<p>Like anything that babies touch or consume, bottles have to be clean so the milk will be as well. Hence, getting a cleaning tool is as important as getting milk and bottles.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_23510\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-23510\" style=\"width: 650px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-23510 \" src=\"https:\/\/www.99.co\/singapore\/insider\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/iStock-511370810.jpg\" alt=\"brushes for baby bottles are important for nurseries\" width=\"650\" height=\"434\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-23510\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Babies are vulnerable and must be protected by cleaning all things they may potentially touch.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>There are different types of brushes available &#8211; a long one, a short one, a brush with thinner bristles, and so on. You can also use a sponge; both\u00a0can be used to clean the interior and exterior of the bottle.<\/p>\n<p>Don&#8217;t brush the bottle too hard, though,\u00a0lest you break it. You can also sterilize milk bottles after washing by:<\/p>\n<p>Boiling it in hot water or using a\u00a0microwave. For the latter, make sure the milk bottle is already BPA\u00a0<em>free<\/em>\u00a0so that the chemical content doesn&#8217;t melt.<\/p>\n<h3>5. A standing baby bathtub<\/h3>\n<p>Babies smell good all the time. Whether they&#8217;re sweaty or just woken from a nap, that pure baby smell is addictive.
