Here&#8217;s what you should know:<\/p>\n<h3>Integrated tourism development<\/h3>\n<p>From 2026, the upcoming Jurong Lake District (JLD) will be bringing various leisure options, which will appeal to both tourists and locals. The seven hectare land &#8211; about the size of ten football fields &#8211; will be featuring a hotel, eateries, and shops.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_11762\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-11762\" style=\"width: 650px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-11762 \" src=\"https:\/\/www.99.co\/singapore\/insider\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/cover.jpg\" alt=\"What you Can Expect in the Upcoming Jurong Lake District\" width=\"650\" height=\"285\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-11762\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">JLD has a unique waterfront environment and location that can attract tourists to the area.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Moreover, JLD fits Singapore Tourism Board&#8217;s (STB) strategy to widen its reach in different parts of Singapore. Calls of expression of interest, in such tourist-related amenities, have now been issued (the calls end in seven months).<\/p>\n<h3>New attractions<\/h3>\n<figure id=\"attachment_19808\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-19808\" style=\"width: 651px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-19808 \" src=\"https:\/\/www.99.co\/singapore\/insider\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/west-side-of-singapore-jurong-lake-gardens.jpeg\" alt=\"What you Can Expect in the Upcoming Jurong Lake District\" width=\"651\" height=\"290\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-19808\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The URA is planning to add a large-scale garden in JLD, with a new Science Centre as its crown jewel.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Two years ago, the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) revealed a draft masterplan of JLD, including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Jurong Lake Gardens will be the first large-scale garden in the heartland, and the &#8220;<em>third Botanic Gardens&#8221;.<\/em><\/li>\n<li>A new Science Centre will be the jewel of Jurong Lake Gardens in 2020. The old Science Cetnre at Jurong Town Hall will be kept for other uses.<\/li>\n<li>A third island will be developed in Jurong Lake. This accompanies a new waterway, for recreational and commercial activities such as aquatic sports.<\/li>\n<li>The High-Speed Rail (HSR) terminus is planned for the area, and will Singapore to Kuala Lumpur in 90 minutes.<\/li>\n<li>The area will include a ten-hectare central park, with more open spaces and water features.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Second Central Business District (CBD)<\/h3>\n<p>The year 2026 may really be the West&#8217;s crowning moment, as it&#8217;s positioned as Singapore&#8217;s second CBD.<\/p>\n<p>Tourists who like to mix business with pleasure can find work and recreational activities in the area.\u00a0More plans for the Western business district includes: a commercial precinct, more housing, and expanded gardens.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_24566\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-24566\" style=\"width: 650px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-24566 \" src=\"https:\/\/www.99.co\/singapore\/insider\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/cbd-buildings.jpg\" alt=\"What you Can Expect in the Upcoming Jurong Lake District\" width=\"650\" height=\"358\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.99.co\/singapore\/insider\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/cbd-buildings-150x84.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.99.co\/singapore\/insider\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/cbd-buildings-270x149.jpg 270w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 650px) 100vw, 650px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-24566\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">JLD is being positioned as Singapore&#8217;s second CBD.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>STB chief executive Keith Tan says tourists are already journey to distant attractions like Singapore Zoo. And if it&#8217;s<em> &#8220;compelling and attractive<\/em> enough,&#8221; it could be the place to\u00a0bring locals and tourists together.<\/p>\n<h3>Will it affect home prices?<\/h3>\n<p>Most market watchers agree that the plans won&#8217;t cause a big spike in property value. This is because we&#8217;ve known about JLD for a long time &#8211; the various new amenities (such as the potential HSR), have already been priced in.
