High net worth individuals and funds, some based in Singapore, are keen on property pickings in\u00a0the United Kingdom (UK) following its exit from the European Union.<\/p>\n

According to a Bloomberg report<\/a>, they are keen to capitalise on the pound’s 11 percent decline\u00a0following the exit, or Brexit as it is commonly known.<\/p>\n

The report quoted representatives from Stamford Management, which oversees US$250 million\u00a0($339 million) in assets of the wealthy and UBS, the world’s largest private bank.<\/p>\n

Despite Brexit, London \u201cremains a key financial hub and a desirable destination,\u201d stressed Stamford\u00a0Management’s chief executive officer Jason Wang.\u00a0As a result, “a substantial number of investors see the currency’s depreciation as a \u201cgood opportunity to\u00a0pick up some prime London properties.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201c(Appointed Prime Minister) Theresa May should provide some pragmatic leadership in steering\u00a0the UK through a manageable Brexit,\u201d he added, citing the pound’s 1.8 percent rebound last week as\u00a0a vote of confidence.<\/p>\n

Mr Simon Smiles, UBS chief investment officer for ultra-high- net-worth individuals, said its clients\u00a0are paying UK mortgages and keeping an eye out for property bargains.<\/p>\n

\u201cClients I have been speaking to were asking when to buy the pound post its Brexit fall, not selling\u00a0it,\u201d he quipped.<\/p>\n

Vulpes Investment Management, a Singapore-based hedge fund, is similarly looking to strengthen\u00a0its portfolio in the UK \u2013 by investing in biotechnology firms.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are regarding this as a buying opportunity in sterling assets, especially for businesses which\u00a0benefit from sterling being near a multi-decade low against the US dollar,\u201d said co-founder Stephen\u00a0Diggle.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe current low level of sterling will be a direct and significant benefit to the bottom line of these\u00a0US dollar-earning companies,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n

\u201cFrom there it is easy to extrapolate that other companies in the UK will have similar economic\u00a0effects, so we have gone looking for bargains,\u201d he quipped.<\/p>\n
