On March 26, National Development Minister Desmond Lee announced several key updates regarding HDB flats during a session at the National University of Singapore (NUS). Among the major changes, he introduced a relaxation of income assessment rules for young couples, updates on BTO flat launches<\/a>, and reviews of housing policies for singles. These changes are expected to make homeownership more accessible for many Singaporeans.<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

      HDB’s income assessment rules for young couples are changing<\/b><\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

      If you are a young couple looking to buy a BTO flat, there\u2019s good news.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

      HDB is making it easier for you to qualify for a larger housing loan by allowing income assessment to be deferred. Starting from the <\/span>July 2025 BTO exercise<\/span><\/a>, you and your partner can delay your income assessment until just before key collection.<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

      To qualify for this change, at least one of you must be a full-time student or a national serviceman. By the time you collect your keys, you will have been working for a longer period, which could increase your income and make you eligible for a higher loan amount. However, you will need to pay an initial downpayment of 2.5% of the flat\u2019s price.<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

      This policy benefits a wide range of young couples, including those who are still in university, polytechnic, or the Institute of Technical Education (ITE).<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
