And while being vacuous is often considered a hallmark of Sentosa Cove living, this time we\u2019re really seeing something big.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The sheer <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.straitstimes.com\/business\/property\/mortgagee-sales-of-larger-homes-on-the-rise\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">number of mortgagee sales<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> seen from 2014 to till today is a sure sign that landlords will be getting desperate \u2013 for many, some rent is better than no rent. And that\u2019s why Singapore Cove may soon become an ideal place to rent.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Why might Sentosa Cove become the ultimate place to rent?<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For a while, it seemed like the only good thing Sentosa had going was to be a tourist trap. But that\u2019s no longer the case. Falling prices have taken this once ritzy area down by several notches, and the landlords are getting desperate zealously hunting for tenants. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Here are our reasons why we think rents in Sentosa Cove will rise:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sentosa Cove rentals are well priced for luxury properties<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The childcare options are surprisingly good<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was quiet before. Now it\u2019s like the town in that Silent Hill game.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The old grocery issue has become less of a problem<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ol>\n<li>\n<h3><b> Sentosa Cove rentals are well priced for luxury properties<\/b><\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you look at average rental price for leases starting January 2015, it\u2019s around $8,160 per month, in most units near <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.99.co\/singapore\/rent?name=Ocean%20Drive%20Singapore&amp;query_coords=1.2472685%2C103.84501419999992&amp;query_type=google&amp;listing_type=rent&amp;zoom=15&amp;radius_max=1000&amp;rental_type=unit\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ocean Drive<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As of now however (leases beginning January 2017), the average for the same area is about $7,870 per month. Not only has the price gone down, but it\u2019s much lower compared to other luxury areas. Most of the Orchard Road rentals, for example, are averaging around $10,520 per month as of January 2017.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For the jealous, non-rich people who are reading this: you may be rolling your eyes and saying \u201ccome on, these people don\u2019t care about the money\u201d. Well genius, maybe they <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">do <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">care, and that\u2019s <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">why <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">they got rich.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For those of you who are serious about renting, do give the cost some thought. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.99.co\/singapore\/insider\/sentosa-versus-orchard\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sentosa is not as central as Orchard<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, but you\u2019re getting a lot of space and top end facilities for the price.<\/span><\/p>\n<ol start=\"2\">\n<li>\n<h3><b> The childcare options are surprisingly good<\/b><\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There was a time when Sentosa was a problem for families, due to the lack of child care (well, unless your idea of child care is strapping your children into amusement park rides for six hours a day). <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Not a lot of people have realised those times are past. Sentosa does have a good preparatory school, the Quayside Isle Preparatory School, which is convenient for residents. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There\u2019s an alternative option right across the bridge at Harbour Front, with Cherie Hearts which has a bigger mix of locals. It\u2019s also convenient, since you can do your shopping on the way back.<\/span><\/p>\n<ol start=\"3\">\n<li>\n<h3><b> It was quiet before. Now it\u2019s like the town in that Silent Hill game<\/b><\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Some people will tell you Sentosa is great for its ocean view. Listen: no one likes the ocean view in Singapore okay? It\u2019s just cargo freighters everywhere. It\u2019s like being given a really boring tour of the Maersk warehouse, except things float.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What Sentosa Cove is great for is <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">silence<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. This is something sorely lacking on the mainland, where the atmosphere is 70 percent traffic noises, and 30 percent Singaporeans complaining about something. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(However, if you <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">want <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">bustle though, don\u2019t rent here.)<\/span><\/p>\n<ol start=\"4\">\n<li><b> <\/b><br \/>\n<h3><b>The old grocery issue has become less of a problem<\/b><\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There are grocers on Singapore, such as Cold Storage and Jason\u2019s. But the grocers there tend to assume expats are some kind of rare animal, that can only eat steaks and foie gras in the way that pandas can only subsist on bamboo.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sentosa Cove residents used to have a fit about getting a wider range (of more reasonably priced) groceries elsewhere. Well guess what: the problem of limited grocers has\u2026not been solved. It just matters less now.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With Deliveroo and Red Mart and other online grocers taking off, it mostly mitigates this long-time problem of Sentosa
