Tiong Bahru
One of the oldest residential estates in Singapore, many blocks of Pre-World War II flats were preserved for conservation in this estate. However, Tiong Bahru (EW17) has now been transformed into one of the hippest neighborhood. What started with just the opening of a coffee joint and an indie bookstore has led to a list of trendy cafes and cool retail stores. Nearby, Zouk, Singapore’s most popular nightclub that ranks 5th globally, is bustling with activity among the 3 clubs it houses – Zouk, Phuture and Velvet Underground. To cater to residents, there are also malls like Tiong Bahru Plaza and Great World City where supermarkets, retail and dining amenities are available.
For families, parents can choose from schools within the area, including Zhangde Primary School, Radin Mas Primary School, Gan Eng Seng Secondary School and Henderson Secondary School. Besides existing apartments such as Central Green and Emerald Park condominium, the completion of Highline Residences will allow more citizens to enjoy the facilities offered in Tiong Bahru.

The nearest educational institutions around the station include Zhangde Primary School, with is within walking distance from Tiong Bahru MRT station Exit A. Other institutions within 10-minute walking distance are private establishments offering aptitude courses such as HiArt which offers art classes for kids and TaF.tc which offers diplomas in fashion and design.
Shopping Malls
Leaving the station from Exit B, one can easily walk to Tiong Bahru Plaza, the nearest shopping malls around the station. Recently re-branded to suit the hipster atmosphere of the neighborhood, Tiong Bahru now consists of popular tenants among youths such as 4FINGERS Chicken, Bangkok Jam Off The Streets serving Thai Food and Golden Village cinema.
Local Shops
Exit A from Tiong Bahru Station leads to Tiong Bahru Market where fresh produces can be found on the first floor and local hawker food can be savoured on the second. Tiong Bahru is surely the most talked-about hipster neighborhood in Singapore, thus, the vicinity is replete with artisan cafe shops and bakeries. Options include the long-famed Forty Hands Drips Cafe @ 82 Tiong Poh Road, Plain Vanilla Bakery @ 1D Yong Siak Street and House of Peranakan Petit @ 42 Eng Hoon Street.
