Assam's Kamakhya Temple of India, during the month of Asadha or Ahaar, from the seventh to tenth day, the residing goddess, Maa Kamakhya is known to bleed. It is said that, she, the divine goddess, Sati, whose, yoni bhaag (vagina) was scattered in this place, bleeds during the time of monsoon. She is said to be in her menses. This year, it falls in June 22 to June 26 of this month. If you are available, you should watch the wonders of this place.
During this time, a popular mela, known as Ambubachi, happens and the temple is closed for three days straight. This is done so that the goddess can have privacy and rest during this period of time. Assam has been known for its beautiful landscapes and amazing wildlife. This festival is celebrated with joys and happiness. During this time, the river Brahmaputra turns red and it is also believed that during the monsoon rains, the creative and nurturing power of the 'menses' of Mother Earth becomes accessible to devotees at this site during the mela.
