The lighting also celebrates the unique arched windows that punctuate the walls and offers a gentle reminder of the Islamic past and the streets connection to the historic Jamae Mosque, a prominent landmark in Chinatown since the 1820s. Today, Mosque Street is home to a mix of Chinese eateries, Korean, Japanese restaurants, art galleries, hotels and backpackers’ hostels such as Porcelain Hotel Singapore, Hotel Mono and Zen Hostel, a popular hangout for tourists and locals.
