Despite being some distance away from central Singapore, Hougang (NE14) is not short of amenities or facilities. Besides the existing Hougang Mall, Hougang Swimming Complex and Hougang Stadium, many new developments are in the pipeline. An integrated hub consisting of a mall, bus terminal and community center all rolled into one will be built next to the train station. Newer developments like Midtown Residences and Parc Vera provide upgraded options for residence. 
More importantly, the upcoming creation of Lorong Halus Industrial Park, targeted at light and clean industries, will offer more jobs near home for residents. A new park will also be built to provide more lush greenery along the Serangoon riverfront. Within the vicinity, Xinmin Primary School, Montfort Secondary School and Serangoon Junior College are just three of the many educational institutions in this district.
