New bus depots in Yishun

The Land Transport Authority (LTA) is sprucing up the bus infrastructure landscape by introducing a brand-new multi-storey bus depot in the Simpang area. This depot, nestled on a spacious 5.6-hectare site adjacent to a heavy vehicle carpark opposite Yishun Industrial Park, is poised to accommodate a whopping 500 buses.

What’s more, this cutting-edge depot will boast a range of facilities designed to streamline daily bus operations, facilitate repair and maintenance tasks, offer ample parking space, and even provide electric bus charging stations, all topped off with eco-friendly solar panels adorning the roof.

Other bus depot plans?

This Yishun depot is just one piece in LTA’s grand vision for better connectivity.

By 2029, they have plans for two other depots in Pasir Panjang and Lorong Halus. The Pasir Panjang depot, boasting a magnificent seven-storey main building accommodating 550 buses, is set to bolster bus operations in the southern region.

On the other hand, the Lorong Halus depot, standing tall at four storeys high and housing another 550 buses, is primed to take over as the go-to hub for the eastern region.

Plus, several other new bus depots are currently in various stages of construction across Singapore, including those in Sengkang West, Gali Batu, East Coast, Kim Chuan, and Tengah, all contributing to the resilience of our public transport network.

More bus stops in Tengah

Shifting our focus to Tengah, residents can rejoice in the recent introduction of two new bus stops. These stops, strategically located in front of Block 132B in Plantation Grange and opposite the Plantation Village Build-To-Order (BTO) project, are now seamlessly integrated into the local transit network.

Served by bus services 870 and 992, these stops provide convenient connections to Bukit Batok and Jurong Town Hall bus interchange, ensuring residents can reach their desired destinations with ease.

Furthermore, a newly installed signalised pedestrian crossing ensures safe access to one of the new bus stops, promising enhanced urban accessibility for all.

The bigger picture

In the grand scheme of things, the Housing Development Board (HDB) envisions Tengah as a bustling hub offering the same level of convenience as existing HDB towns. Although it may take time to fully develop amenities and major transport facilities, the journey towards a well-connected and vibrant community is well underway.

With these exciting developments on the horizon, residents of Yishun and Tengah can look forward to a future where transportation is not just a means of getting from point A to point B but a seamless and integrated part of everyday life.
