Not all town parks in Singapore were made equal – and Toa Payoh Town Park is testimony to that. This highly Instagrammable park features a hexagonal bridge, the iconic Toa Payoh tower, and even a stone arch bridge (pictured above). Come in the evening for a romantic tete-a-tete with your significant other – for an hour or two, you’ll feel like you’ve temporarily escaped Singapore.

Even if you’re non-religious, you can’t miss out on a trip to the Lian Shan Shuang Lin Monastery, which is the only monastery in Singapore that’s gazetted as a national monument.
The monastery has recently completed 11 years’ worth of restoration work, and is a sight to behold. If you’re exploring the compounds, you’ll chance upon the seven-storey Dragon Light pagoda which will marvel with its many intricate carvings, as well as the wishing well, where you can make a wish!

Ask any foodie worth his salt about great zichar in Singapore, and Melben Seafood will definitely feature on his list. A word of caution, though – queues here are insanely long, and you might have to wait up to half an hour to get a seat even if you arrive before they open.
Once you’re in, the must-try dish is the Crab Bee Hoon. We’ve heard countless rave reviews about the milky, flavourful broth that’s been infused with the sweetness of the crab meat. If you have space for more, the Chilli Crab also comes highly recommended.

Can’t decide between getting chendol and getting waffles? Now you can have both!
If you think Shrove Tuesday’s waffles are lighter and crispier than most, it’s because they were specially engineered to achieve this texture. The secret is in a yeast-raised batter, which releases carbon dioxide during the cooking process. This puffs up the batter, and makes it fluffier and crispier.
Chendol gelato, vanilla soft serve, your usual Chendol ingredients, plus an unbelievably fluffy waffle. What’s not to love?

Hougang 6 Miles Famous Mua Chee is a force to be reckoned with. The owners of the stall, an elderly couple, have been selling mua chee since 1952 – that’s a whopping 65 years dedicated to the hawker trade. In this time, they’ve amassed a loyal following who proclaim their hand-cut sesame and peanut mua chee to be the best in Singapore.
