Residents of Pearl Bank Apartments left their mark on the iconic condominium, and not in a good way. They are required to move out ahead of demolition later in the year. And three weeks earlier than they were supposed to, Pearl Bank residents left a mess on their way out.
The shoe-shaped condo was constructed in 1976, when it soon became the most sought-after condominium at the time. But the visual of that highly-revered condo is nowhere in sight, today.
From iconic condo to trash site

Three weeks ahead of when they were supposed to vacate their units, Pearl Bank residents left an ungodly amount of trash outside of their houses. Heaps of furniture and other rubbish littered almost all of its 37 floors, including:
- Broken glass
- Fiberglass
- Waste food
- Refrigerators
- Washing machines
- Sofas
- Cupboards
- Mattresses
- Splintered plasterboard
These are all above head-access, obstructing access to fire escape stairwells. It occupies much of the corridor spaces, blocking service elevators as well. There are still residents living in Pearl Bank, which makes us wonder how could they have manouevred in and out of so much junk?
Residents are required to move out by the end of this month as it must be cleaned and cleared before it can be handed over to CapitaLand.

Pearl Bank management put up reminders on lifts and corridors for residents, advising them to hire professional help for the removal of their unwanted items. With the current state of the condo, it obviously went unheeded.
A spokesperson from Pearl Bank Apartments management said: “We have tried to clear the areas regularly, but the next day rubbish has piled up to the ceiling again.”
They’ve hired five extra staff to help clear the towering piles of rubbish, and are dealing with the “illegal dumping” issue.
Pearl Bank can be found in Outram Park. Designed by architect Tan Cheng Siong, it’s hailed as one of Singapore’s most famous residential buildings.
