10 new TEL MRT stations and hawker centres to open this year

5 min read

Exciting news is on the horizon for commuters and food enthusiasts alike, as the LTA gears up for the launch of Stage 4 of the Thomson-East Coast Line (TEL) at the end of June this year.

This eagerly awaited expansion promises not only enhanced connectivity but also delightful culinary experiences with the unveiling of three new hawker centres. Let’s get into the details of these upcoming developments.

7 New MRT Stations along the TEL

7 new tel mrt stations to open in June 2024Get ready to explore seven new MRT stations along Singapore’s TEL, set to kick off passenger service on June 23.

These stations – Tanjong Rhu, Katong Park, Tanjong Katong, Marine Parade, Marine Terrace, Siglap, and Bayshore – will seamlessly connect with the existing stages of the TEL, spanning from Woodlands North to Gardens by the Bay

With this expansion, approximately 235,000 households will find themselves within a 10-minute stroll from a TEL station, ensuring convenience and accessibility for all.

The addition of these seven stations brings about significant travel time savings of up to 50 percent on TEL routes. For instance, residents of Marine Parade can now reach Shenton Way in just 20 minutes via the TEL, compared to the previous 40-minute journey involving bus and train transfers.

When can you expect Stage 5 to roll out?

Looking ahead, several more TEL MRT stations are slated for completion in 2026.

These include the Bedok South and Sungei Bedok stations, constituting the fifth and final stage of the TEL, along with the Xilin station on a Downtown Line (DTL) extension.

The integration of these stations will further bolster our robust public transportation network, enhancing connectivity across various regions.

This strategic location will facilitate easy access to the Singapore Institute of Technology Punggol campus and the forthcoming Punggol Digital District, promising unparalleled convenience for residents and commuters.

Hume Station on the Downtown Line is also slated to open in 2025, bolstering accessibility to the Rail Corridor (Central).

Furthermore, three new Circle Line stations – Keppel, Cantonment, and Prince Edward – are poised to “close the loop” between existing HarbourFront and Marina Bay stations, further enhancing connectivity across the island.
