The Interlace condominium was lauded by the international architectural fraternity as a “trailblazer”.
Featuring 31 blocks of apartments stacked in a hexagonal arrangement, The Interlace condominium won the top prize at the 2015 World Architecture Festival.
The residential property bagged the World Building of the Year title at the annual event, considered the Oscars of the architectural world. There were 338 projects submitted this year.
The Interlace by CapitaLand Singapore was completed in 2013, has 1,040 units and sits on an 8ha site. It was designed by celebrated German architect Ole Scheeren.
Judges were impressed by its “bold, contemporary architecture and thinking,” festival director Paul Finch told The Straits Times.
“It offers an alternative for developments that might otherwise be default tower clusters,” he said.
“You could use this idea and have different building types or ownership patterns, or change the dimensions of some of the blocks. It’s a proposition which is fertile.”
The live judging was done by a panel led by English architect Peter Cook, at a three-day event held at Marina Bay Sands.
This is not the first time Singapore has won the festival’s top accolade. Gardens by the Bay won the title in 2012.
