Property agents react to the circuit breaker extension

2 min read

The Singapore government has announced the extension of circuit breaker (CB) measures on 21 April 2020. The measures, which were implemented on 7 April 2020, were originally scheduled to run for one month until 4 May. Bad news for property agents; the CB has now been extended to 1 June 2020.

With in-person property viewings banned and condo sales galleries shut, the circuit breaker measures are expected to have a huge impact on the real estate industry. That said, property agents we spoke to had different thoughts about the announcement of the circuit breaker extension. Here are some of their reactions (we’ve kept them anonymous for good reason):

We think this agent can write our articles.

Last but not least, an impassioned call to arms from one of the leaders in the Singapore real estate industry, who sent this to us as a voice message:

“Who says that the customer must go to the showflat before they actually close the deal? Who says that a customer who buys a resale property, must see the house before they can buy? I have agents that actually get their owners to use Zoom to actually show the customer the unit. They can actually Zoom at the same time to have five customers watching the viewing of the resale unit, and from there they can actually close the deal because of Zoom.”

So will my property agent friend eat grass?

Ultimately, property agents are going to have a leaner spell during the circuit breaker period. But without encouragement and support from within the industry, agents would be having it much tougher. For now, it’s time to grin and bear it (and conduct some virtual viewings).

Oh, and remember to check in on your property agent friends to see how they’re doing, yeah?
