
Residents of Ang Mo Kio can look forward to enhanced convenience and better public transport options with the unveiling of a new bus service, part of the town’s larger revitalisation efforts.
This latest addition aims to provide improved connectivity for commuters. It is one of the many infrastructure enhancements outlined in the Ang Mo Kio Town Council (AMKTC) Master Plan.

The ‘Master Plan’ for Ang Mo Kio
The new bus service 138M, will now provide a more direct route to Ang Mo Kio Polyclinic from the bus interchange. This is part of a larger initiative spearheaded by AMKTC and the local authorities to improve the quality of life in the neighbourhood.
The Master Plan, as outlined by Senior Minister Lee Hsien Loong, aims to make Ang Mo Kio a more liveable, accessible, and vibrant town.
In addition to transport enhancements, the plan includes the creation of more sheltered linkways, therapeutic parks, and senior-friendly facilities as part of the Silver Upgrading Program.
Over the years, Ang Mo Kio has evolved from a developing new town into a bustling residential hub, with continuous upgrades to amenities such as the Fernvale Community Centre, Fernvale Hawker Centre and Market, and various upgraded food centres across the town.

Sustainability is also a core focus in Ang Mo Kio’s development plans. The AMKTC Master Plan outlines several eco-friendly initiatives aimed at reducing the town’s carbon footprint and fostering a greener living environment.
One major initiative is the installation of solar panels across 501 blocks, allowing the town to harness renewable energy. Using energy-efficient LED lights across 849 residential blocks, linkways, open spaces, and carparks will also reduce reliance on non-renewable power sources.
To address food waste, an innovative Eco-Digester system has been introduced. This is capable of converting up to 300 tonnes of food waste into water annually. This will not only reduces landfill waste but also promotes a more sustainable way of handling organic waste.
Urban farming has also been incorporated into the town’s sustainability strategy. Ang Mo Kio aims to have multiple urban farming sites established on the rooftops of car parks. These sites will promote local food production while encouraging community engagement.
New bus routes across Singapore
The new bus service in Ang Mo Kio coincides with a broader expansion of bus services across Singapore. The other new bus services include:
- Service 92B (Kent Ridge MRT to Singapore Science Park 1): To be operational from March 24, on all weekdays except public holidays, from 7.50am to 9.11am.
- Service 112B (Hougang Central Bus Interchange to Hougang Avenue 7): To be operational from March 24, on all weekdays except public holidays, from 5.38pm to 7.13pm.
- Service 258M (supplementary service with stop at Boon Lay Shopping Centre): To operate only on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays from 6.30am to 12.30pm. This bus service will begin from March 23, and supplement the existing 258 service. It will not be available when 258 is in operation.
- Service 71A (Mayflower MRT to Bishan MRT): In operation from March 17, this service runs from 6.53am to 8.30am on weekdays, excluding public holidays.
With these improvements, residents of Ang Mo Kio and beyond can enjoy more seamless and efficient transport options. These changes will undoubtedly bring respite to the citizens living in Ang Mo Kio and other nearby areas.
