By 2020, residents in Punggol, Hougang and Sembawang can enjoy living near next-gen neighbourhood centres that provides the most convenient amenities.
Residents can conveniently walk to these centres from the LRT station via a sheltered bridge, which transitions into a shop-lined corridor of the upper floor of an airy building. They can choose to stop for dinner at the foodcourt, buy groceries or even pick up their kids from the childcare centre, before heading home by taking an elevated walkway directly connected to their Housing Board block – all without going down to the street level.
In addition to providing convenience and facilities, these neighbourhood centres will act as a gathering point for the community of residents there.

They would differ from the more extensive town hubs such as those in Tampines and Bedok as they serve tens of thousands of residents across an entire town, while these next-gen neighbourhood centres aim to serve only about 5,000-6,000 residents surrounding the area.
These neighbourhood centres are expected to be built by 2018 to 2020, where two of them will be built in Punggol, and one each in Hougang and Sembawang.
