Notice of Assessment (NOA)

What is a Notice of Assessment (NOA)?

The Notice of Assessment (NOA) is an official tax bill issued by the Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore (IRAS) for individuals and registered companies. It provides detailed information about your chargeable income and the corresponding tax amount owed to the IRAS.

Once you have completed and submitted your final, personal income tax filing, you can anticipate receiving your NOA as an individual taxpayer. The IRAS reviews the submitted details and begins sending out the tax bills in digital and hardcopy formats at the end of April.

How many types of Notice of Assessment (NOA)?

The following are the four different types of NOA issued by IRAS for corporate income tax filing:

  • NOA Type 1

This is generated when your company successfully files its Estimated Chargeable Income for the relevant tax year.

  • NOA Type 2

If your company does not meet the deadline for filing its Estimated Chargeable Income within three months of the financial year-end, fails to submit Form C and Form C-S on time as required by the IRAS, or declares a low Estimated Chargeable Income, you will be issued this notice. It is also used for advance tax assessments.

  • NOA Type 3

After successfully filing your company’s Form C and Form C-S, the IRAS prepares this type of notice.

  • NOA Type 4

This is the final notice after the IRAS conclusively assesses your company’s chargeable income and the corresponding tax amount. You can formally object to the assessment within two months from the issue date.

Each of these NOAs includes the tax bill and provides payment instructions, including the accepted modes of tax payment and the payment deadlines. It is vital to settle the payment within the specified deadline stated in the NOA, usually within one month, to avoid a late payment penalty.

How to get a Notice of Assessment (NOA) copy?

As previously mentioned, the IRAS generates both digital and physical tax bills. The digital version can be accessed through the IRAS myTax portal, while businesses also receive hard copies at their registered addresses.

However, it’s important to note that IRAS doesn’t issue all tax invoices simultaneously. Assessments are conducted from the end of April, and taxpayers may receive their notices at different times.

You can update your mobile phone contact number on the IRAS website to receive real-time updates on your NOA. Once your tax bill is uploaded, the system will send you an SMS alert.

To access your NOA, follow these steps:

  1. Log in to the myTax Portal using your SingPass ID or IRAS Unique Account (IUA) credentials.
  2. Navigate to the “Notices” section, select “Individual,” and then choose “View Individual Tax Notices.”
  3. You can review and download PDF copies of the tax invoices you have received in the past three years for your reference and records.
