History of Changi city point

Changi is located on Singapore’s eastern outskirts, stretching from Kampong Kembangan to Telok Paku. On the map of Singapore, it was referred to as Tanjong Rusa, and it became known as Changi in the early 19th century. Tanjong Changi was the name given to Singapore’s extreme southeastern tip on Franklin and Jackson’s 1828 map. Vessels travelling through the Johor Straits would have to pass through Changi. Changi was also known as Franklin Point during early surveys of Singapore island from the 1820s to the 1830s after Captain Franklin was one of the early surveyors. It appeared that colonial authorities had given their name to Changi in addition to the existing Malay name.
