Here’s a financial tip from the rich: either spend a lot of money getting the best you can, or don’t buy at all. In the following listings, it’s clearly the case of the former. Get ready for an envy-induced fit, as we unveil the jaw dropping listings this year:
Top luxury units to rent
If I owned these properties, I’d sell them for the approximate price of infinite dollars. Forget about the owners letting go; the only way to be living in these is to rent them. It should be quite easy to get a two or three year lease, assuming you’re willing to sell some of your oil wells.
1. One Shenton
This development is right across the street from the iconic Lau Pa Sat (old market.) That also means it’s in the heart of the financial district, and less than a three minute walk from the Singapore Exchange. Perfect for high powered traders or head honchos in private banking.
There’s access to roof terraces that provide a pool and a Jacuzzi. It doesn’t say who lines the pool bottom with champagne bottles though; your manservant might have to do it. Tsk. Condo management these days.
The apartment comes fully furnished, and rent is $38,000 per month. For viewing or more details, contact the agent via 99.co.
2. Seascape

Seascape is a fairly new (four years old) addition on Cove Way at Sentosa. This oceanfront unit is perfect if you can’t stand Singapore’s glass and concrete landscape. They could film a Hawaii Five-0 episode in here and no one would notice.
And at 896 square metres, I mean they could film the entire episode in there. Flood a living room and you could have a reasonable Jet Ski chase.
It has all the amenities you’d expect form a high-end condo: swimming pool, spa, gym, BBQ pits, etc. I can tell you it’s a real steal, because at $38,000 a month most of us would have to steal alright.
Unsurprisingly, this listing has been taken but there are more units to view the Seascape.
3. Hana

Located along Tomlinson Road, most of you have probably passed by this development a dozen times. If you could peek inside you’d see 329 square metres of luxury living, with amenities like a 1.2 metre private plunge pool, a clubhouse with a gourmet kitchen (can come with chef if you use the concierge service), and huge master bedrooms with walk-in wardrobes.
Being in Tanglin, this development means you’re five minutes away from Orchard Road. You’re an even shorter distance from Tanglin Mall, so you could probably stay in the same radius for a year.
$33,000 a month is steep, but you’re probably not going find a location to rival Hana at the same price. For viewings and details, contact the agent via 99.co.
Top luxury units to buy
Not everyone buys because of capital gains, rental income, or other soulless money making reasons. When you’re an owner-occupier, what you want is a place you feel at home in. And when you’re an owner-occupier who’s reached the top, what you feel at home in is a palatial estate. Preferably with a private army, stealth fighter, and underground bunker where you manipulate world leaders during secret conferences.
Failing that, you can pick one of these:
1. The Sail @ Marina Bay

This cool $20 million penthouse at Marina Boulevard has a 360 degree view of the surrounding city. And you know, there aren’t many condos out there that can make the Marina Bay infinity pool seem…plebeian.
Penthouse suits are rare in Singapore, even if you can afford them. They’re even rarer in this location, where you’re within easy range of Boat Quay and Clark Quay. Survey the bustle below like a lord from a rampart, or head down and join the nightlife in a matter of minutes.
Someone snapped up this penthouse but fear not, for more available units in the Sail check out 99.co
2. The Orchard Residences

Another penthouse unit, and this one ties at first place for exclusivity. For $20 million, this Orchard Boulevard development is within spitting distance of major malls like ION and Paragon. Coincidentally, $20 million is what most of us would spend in a month along that stretch, if we were rich enough to live there.
Amenities include a cigar room (hang a “no smoking” sign for a dose of hipster irony), yoga room, and the inevitable private pool.
This property is no longer listed right now, so I imagine some lucky owner has his feet up, and is dipping cigar ashes into the pool. What’s the point of decadence and luxury if you can’t misbehave? Check out the other properties available in this development.
3. Skyline

Again near Orchard, we have this 3,767 square metre penthouse at the Skyline. From the picture, I estimate the interior design kept no less than 5,000 marble quarry workers employed for a year.
At $18 million, this unit provides access to facilities like interior and outdoor dining pavilions, spa suites, sun bathing decks, and the invariable pool and gym. It’s also located on Angullia Park, which means proximity to Orchard Road.
For viewings and more details, contact the agent via 99.co.
4. Goodwood Residence

This penthouse unit is in the quiet Bukit Timah area. Okay, maybe that’s not in the heart of Orchard Road or something, but it’s great for nature lovers; not least because with 892 square metres, you could raise an endangered rhino in there. And check out that view: none of those small rectangular holes we take the liberty of calling windows.
Besides making my condo look like a cell out of The Shawshank Redemption, facilities include tennis courts, Jacuzzis, a concierge service, and a fully stocked library. Any more and you could start selling tickets and claim it’s a recreation club.
Luxury and serenity has value, and in this case that value is about $17 million. For viewing and details, contact the agent via 99.co.
